Pedestrian Seriously Injured In Suspected DUI Crash

The 30-year-old victim underwent surgery at local hospital after being hit in a Novato crosswalk, police said.

NOVATO, CA – A 30-year-old Novato resident suffered "significant" injuries after being hit while crossing a street by an alleged impaired driver, who was subsequently arrested, according to the Novato Police Department.

Police were called Thursday night at 9:24 p.m. to the 900 block of Diablo Avenue where a man, who reportedly was in the marked crosswalk at the intersection of George Street, was struck by a vehicle heading east on Diablo, police said.

"The pedestrian sustained significant injuries as a result of the collision, and was transported to a local trauma hospital where he underwent surgery." the department said.

The driver allegedly involved and identified as Novato resident Deanna Bowden, 29, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

"It was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was ultimately arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for felony driving under the influence causing injury," the agency said.
