San Marin's Mercurio, Castro-Abrams Kings of MCAL Pool
Mustang stars not only win specialties but also contribute to a relay win; Megan Campbell and Celeste Malatesta stand out among the Mustangs' girls at the annual championships.
Thomas Mercurio and Kenneth Castro-Abrams each recorded an individual first- and second-place finish and also swam a leg on a winning relay team to highlight San Marin High’s performance at the Marin County Athletic League Swimming and Diving Championships at Redwood on May 14.
In leading the Mustangs to sixth place in the team standings, Mercurio won the 100-yard breaststroke (58.51) and took second in the 200 individual medley (1:59.32), while Castro-Abrams was first in the 100 backstroke (51.68) and second in the 100 butterfly (50.41). The backstroke time broke a 15-year-old MCAL record.
They also teamed with Ryan Campbell and Charlie Winter to win the 200 medley relay (1:38.35).
