Silent Movies ... The Art of Classic Comedy

The Novato Theater KIDS’ Film Club presents Silent Movies … The Art of Classic Comedy on September 27, 2014 from 3-6 p.m. in the Community Room at Redwood Credit Union, 1010 Grant Avenue, Novato. Cost for the event is $5 NT KID’S Film Club Members / $10 Non-KID’S Film Club Members / $15 Event & Annual KID’S Film Club Membership. The event workshop will feature special guest John Morrison from the California Film Institute. John is the CFI Education Director and heads up children’s programming at CFI and MVFF. On the 27th, children will learn about the “antics and craft” of the first silent movies and how “slapstick” and stunts were used to make people laugh. Through film, art and conversation, they will learn the impact of “black and white” silent movies on generations of movie goers. In addition to the educational workshop and film, attendees will enjoy a crafts project, prizes and a healthy snack.

The Novato Theater KIDS Film Club is a children’s cinema club and your child’s ticket to discovering carefully selected films in our local community. KIDS Film Club members enjoy screenings ranging from traditional classics to contemporary films. The screenings will have an educational component and often include a guest speaker who will provide historical and industry insights. Each screening will have a nominal donation and include a healthy snack. Seating will be limited and KIDS Film Club members will have advance notice to reserve first. 100% of the proceeds from these events will benefit the Novato Theater, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation that is leading the rebuilding and operation of the historic downtown Novato Theater.
