The single best thing you can do to help your teen in high school
Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise Sponsors Free Access to this Online Crash Course for All Teens in Novato
Maybe you are actively involved in managing and helping your teen with homework. Or, have you set expectations and offered a reward for good grades. Perhaps, you are trying to enforce quiet hours for homework with no TV, phone, Internet or video games. In our experience with thousands of teens, here is what really helps. Get your teen started doing enough of the right practice to master each lesson in turn. Once teens experience that active practice is the fastest, easiest way to learn anything, their mindset changes.
Everybody knows that to get good at piano, dancing, or using a smart phone takes practice. But many students forget this when they are learning algebra, science, a second language or written composition. Based on their years of experience in school, many have decided that they don’t like and aren’t good at certain subjects. They don’t think they can do any better. With that mindset, homework is a chore rather than a necessary ingredient for learning.
How can you change your teen’s mindset? Have your teen watch the online videos about the Power Learners Method. There are 5 videos, each no more than 5-minutes long. You might watch the videos yourself, so you are familiar with the approach too.
