2 Arrested After Oceanside Search Uncovers Illegal Firearm, Stolen Property

Both men were booked into the Vista Detention Facility, sheriff's officials said.

OCEANSIDE, CA — Two men were arrested after detectives served a search warrant at a North County home and seized an illegal weapon, ammunition, drugs and stolen property, authorities said.

Detectives served the warrant March 12 in the 2700 block of College Boulevard in Oceanside as part of an ongoing burglary investigation, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. During the search, investigators seized a privately manufactured firearm, often called a "ghost gun," configured as an assault rifle, along with high-capacity magazines, ammunition, body armor, narcotics and stolen property related to the burglary investigation.

Johnathan Perez, 38, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and other theft-related offenses. Michael Renteria, 32, was arrested on suspicion of multiple weapons violations, including being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Both men were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Vista Detention Facility, officials said.
