Driver Injured In Crash After Police Chase In Oceanside

A police pursuit along Interstate 15 ended Friday when the vehicle rolled and crashed, leaving the driver unconscious.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A police pursuit along Interstate 15 ended Friday when the vehicle rolled and crashed, leaving the driver unconscious.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 12:25 p.m. near El Norte and State Route 78 in Oceanside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, a motorcycle police officer saw a Toyota Corolla moving at a high rate of speed and swerving in and out of traffic along the northbound I-15. The officer began to follow the Corolla but the female driver did not slow down.

The Corolla driver exited the freeway, switched directions and began driving erratically along the southbound I-15. After exiting the southbound I- 15, the driver then attempted to enter State Route 78 near El Norte, where the vehicle rolled over once and crashed.

The driver was found unconscious and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, the CHP said.

The extent of her injuries was unknown.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
