Firefighters Save Instruments from Classroom Fire at Garrison Elementary School

Many instruments—valued at approximately $30,000—were saved from the flames, Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Dunham said.

Firefighters quickly put out flames in a portable classroom at , saving thousands of dollars worth of musical instruments.

The fire broke out at approximately 4:15 p.m. Saturday at 333 Garrison St., fire officials said. The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the school's fire alarm.

Firefighters found a portable classroom in the rear area of the school property ablaze. Fire was also lapping the roof through a broken window, Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Dunham said.

The majority of the string instruments—valued at approximately $30,000—were saved from the flames, Dunham said.

Officials said damage from the fire is estimated at $150,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
