- To encourage people to donate critically needed blood, the American Red Cross has partnered with Krispy Kreme and the NFL. Krispy Kreme announced that anyone who donates blood this month will receive a dozen free glazed doughnuts. Donors who give blood Jan. 1-31, 2022, will automatically be entered to win two tickets to Super Bowl LVI (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- The third of six planned separation boards convened at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Tuesday as the service weighs what to do with the officers and senior enlisted leader's investigations blamed for the fatal sinking of an Assault Amphibious Vehicle off the San Diego coast two summers ago. - Golfers across the state took a collective sigh of relief when a bill proposing to convert publicly-owned golf courses into affordable housing failed to pass the California State Assembly's appropriations committee. In North County, there are several municipal golf courses, such as Oceanside Municipal Golf Course and Center City Golf Course in Oceanside. (Coast News)
- The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce hosted the January Rising Star student recognition program at the El Camino Country Club last week. - Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA), County Supervisor Jim Desmond and Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear held a joint press conference on Jan. 24 in Oceanside to announce a potential way forward to fund upgrades to the intersection at SR 78 and Vista Way. "Many of our roads and bridges are crumbling," Levin said. "In some places, like the interchange … our highways are in desperate need of improvements.
