- KNVS (pronounced Canvas) recently opened at The Fin Hotel Campus on Coast Hwy in Oceanside. - A San Diego man drowned in Newport Harbor after trying to retrieve a cell phone that fell into the water over the weekend, the Orange County Register reported. 32-year-old Mathew Morrow was with family and friends on Lido Isle, which is a manmade island in the middle of the harbor on Sunday afternoon when someone in the group dropped the phone authorities said. Morrow attempted to retrieve the phone by jumping in the water, but never came back up, Orange County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Scott Steinle said. (San Diego Patch)
- San Diego County supervisors unanimously ratified a state of emergency Tuesday in response to the monkeypox outbreak to bolster vaccination efforts. The ratification follows a state declaration last week and will need to be ratified again every 30 days, as needed. The state of emergency declaration will allow the county to seek state assistance and use public health infrastructure for testing, contact tracing and case investigation. Several dozen public speakers argued in opposition to the declaration, with arguments sometimes delving into conspiracy theories and homophobia. The first case in the county was reported June 15. The virus has infected people ranging in age from 21 to 62. (San Diego Patch)
