UPDATE: Oceanside Man Threatened to Set Himself on Fire in Police Standoff
An Oceanside man led deputies on a North County road chase ending in a five-hour standoff.

VISTA, CA - A 34-year-old Oceanside man was behind bars Friday after a North County pursuit that culminated with a roughly five-hour standoff during which he doused himself with gasoline and threatened to set himself ablaze.
Oscar Daniel Cedillo fled in a black Chevrolet Silverado about 9:30 a.m. Thursday when a deputy contacted him in a neighborhood near Encinitas Ranch Golf Course regarding a report that Cedillo had been loitering suspiciously in the area, according to sheriff's officials.
Deputies tailed Cedillo as he fled to the east and north, determining in the process that he was the subject of an arrest warrant stemming from an alleged assault on a peace officer.

Cedillo exited the freeway and drove through Pala, Pauma and Valley Center before running over a spike strip laid down near Valley Center and Cole Grade roads. However, he continued onto state Route 76, but was forced to stop on Mission San Antonio De Pala after running over a second spike strip on Pala Mission Road shortly before 10:30 a.m., Bettencourt said.

Law enforcement officers took up positions around the vehicle and ordered the driver to get out, but he refused their commands. The suspect doused himself with gasoline as he sat behind the wheel of the disabled truck, according to news reports.
The stalemate continued until shortly after 3 p.m., when a SWAT team shot tear gas into the truck, pulled the suspect out and took him into custody.
Cedillo was booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of assault and evading arrest. He was being held without bail in pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.
