Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The Oceanside Planning Commission has denied the proposed Breeze Luxury Apartments planned for the 2.67-acre location south of Oceanside Boulevard, behind the city's historic Oceanview Cemetery. The proposed six-story, block-like building included 146 apartments on a site previously approved for 36 townhouses. One of the Oceanside Planning Commission members described the project as "hideous." Residents who addressed the commission at its meeting Monday opposed the project. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
  2. A man was in police custody following the discovery of Molotov cocktails and hand-held bombs, authorities said Wednesday. Deputies responded to reports of a man acting suspiciously in the Fallbrook area and found 30-year-old Jacob Daniel Oberg around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Oberg was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of several felony charges for possessing an explosive device in public. (Patch)
  3. A magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck early Thursday near Borrego Springs in San Diego County. The quake was reported at 12:32 a.m. about four miles north-northeast of Borrego Springs, a Census-designated place in the county, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake had a depth of nearly seven miles. The quake was felt in Borrego Spring, El Cajon, Fallbrook, Ramona, Ranchita, San Diego and Spring Valley, according to the USGS. (Patch)
  4. Authorities were investigating the death of a person whose body was found Thursday in northern San Diego County. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department received a report of a body found around 7 a.m. off the roadway near the 8000 block of Harmony Grove Road in unincorporated San Marcos. Responding deputies found a "body wrapped in an unknown material," sheriff's Lt. Chris Steffen said. Little information was available regarding the circumstances of the death. (Patch)
  5. Three current and former San Diego State University football players — including NFL punter Matt Araiza — were accused in a lawsuit filed Thursday of raping an underage girl at an off-campus house party last year. The suit alleges Araiza, Zavier Leonard and Nowlin "Pa'a" Ewaliko raped the then-17-year-old last October while she was heavily intoxicated. The filing of the lawsuit marks the first time any students have been specifically identified in the case, which drew criticism from some regarding the timing of the university's investigation into the allegations.
