Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. A pedestrian was hit and killed by a pickup truck in North County on Monday, authorities said. The man was crossing the street on Encinitas Boulevard when the vehicle struck him shortly before 6 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The 79-year-old man, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene, sheriff's Sgt. Rob Siegfried said. The driver of the truck was not injured. (Patch)
  2. The plans to redevelop the Oceanside Transit Center for affordable housing have been revised. The preliminary plans to redevelop the 10.2-acre project with a large hotel, hundreds of apartments, retail stores and offices have been submitted to the Oceanside Planning Department. Toll Brothers, Inc., filed its application with the city on Aug. 30 for permits and other entitlements needed to build the mixed-use project on the South Tremont Street property owned by North County Transit District, said Robert Dmohowski, the city’s project manager. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
  3. The Oceanside Yacht Club Youth Foundation sponsored a trip to the Marine Institute in Dana Point last month to provide maritime activities for youth. The group included Oceanside Yacht Club Juniors, parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors. OYCYF Director and OYC Jr. Director Ron Dreyer and OYCYF Secretary Linda Loftis accompanied the group. “They all had a fabulous time!” said OYCYF President Michael Cobas. (The Log)

As Halloween nears, bone-chilling options abound at haunted houses throughout the San Diego region and nearby. Peruse the list of amusement-park extravaganzas and local fear-fests.   5. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Monday for the 10th consecutive day after dropping 76 times in the previous 79 days, increasing a half cent to $5.348. The average price has increased 12.6 cents over the past 10 days, including 1.3 cents Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. It is 9.7 cents more than one week ago and 99.8 cents higher than one year ago, but 1.8 cents less than one month ago. The average price is $1.025 less than the record $6.373 set June 15. It dropped $1.151 in the 79-day run of deceasing prices that began after the average price rose to a record high. (Patch)
