OCEANSIDE, CA — The Oceanside City Council approved moving forward on Beach Sand Restoration Projects at their August 11 meeting including approval of $1 million for design, permitting and environmental work for the groin and sand bypass system projects.

Local beach advocates !S.O.S.Oceanside!, are in favor of the groin system to address the shrinking beaches in Oceanside. But the project's future is in question given that the California Coastal Commission and other communities south of Oceanside will likely object to the plan.

In an effort to keep the business community informed of the ongoing sand erosion problem, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce held an Emerging Issue Forum on November 4th to provide an update on Oceanside's Sand Retention Pilot Program.
