The case, spanning multiple counties, involves forged federal benefit checks and could bring decades in prison if he's convicted. Oceanside residents may see this as part of a broader regional fraud crackdown.
   

4. Jurors to Begin Deliberating in Trial of Man Charged in Fatal Crash in Irvine (mynewsla.com) — Jurors are beginning deliberations in the Irvine trial of a man accused of second-degree murder after a 2021 crash that killed his 18-year-old niece, who had called him for a ride from a disappointing Oceanside party. Prosecutors argue his drug use and prior DUI warning show implied malice, while the defense says he simply fell asleep at the wheel. Oceanside figures prominently as the starting point of the tragic trip.
