• Beloved eagle Shadow returns to California nest with younger bird weeks after losing mate (thecooldown.com) — Ojai Raptor Center played a key role in caring for Jackie, the beloved Big Bear bald eagle who died there earlier this month after extensive testing and treatment. Now her longtime mate Shadow has been seen spending time with a younger banded eagle, KD1, near their Big Bear nest, and observers are watching closely to see whether a new pair bond forms. 
• Four Santa Paula men arrested for suspected copper wire theft (mercedsunstar.com) — Copper wire thefts that disrupted phone and cell service around Santa Paula have also recently hit Ojai, along with Camarillo, Fillmore, and Moorpark. Four Santa Paula men were arrested after officers recovered hundreds of feet of stolen wire, and investigators say similar thefts countywide have already led to multiple arrests.
