Baby Found Dead In Hot Car In Fullerton

Police are investigating the death of an infant that had been in a parked car on a hot day in Fullerton.

FULLERTON, CA — Police are investigating the death of a baby found in a hot car in Fullerton Wednesday.

Authorities were called to the 400 block of West Wilshire Avenue at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday, where the baby had been taken out of the vehicle. Paramedics tried to save the baby, the child was pronounced dead at the scene, said Fullerton Police Department Sgt. Eric Bridges.

Thee baby's relatives were on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police are seeking to determine if the child, whose gender and age were not released, was left in the car alone, Bridges said. The infant was under 2, he said. Investigators believe the child may have been left in the hot car for an extended period of time, CBSLA reported. Fullerton experienced a high of 87 degrees Wednesday. When a car is parked in the sun at 87 degrees, the interior temperature can exceed 100 degrees in just 10 minutes

The child was released to the Orange County Coroner's Office, which will also conduct an investigation and determine the cause of death, Bridges said.
