ANAHEIM, CA —Disneyland Resort has updated its mask policy following new guidelines from the state of California's health department. The theme park once again requires that all visitors age 2 and up wear face coverings in all indoor locations in the theme park, regardless of vaccination status, as a safeguard against the surging coronavirus starting on Friday, the park says. This rule also applies to theme park workers—referred to as "Cast Members" by the resort.

In April, guests and Cast Members returned to the happiest place on earth, more than happy to don masks and follow the social distancing requirements asked of them, as did the Wotter family from Lake Elsinore. Just three months later, those same mask requirements have returned for those who enter the park, as well as those who venture indoors.

"(Guests are to wear face coverings) upon entering and throughout many attractions and in enclosed transportation vehicles, including shuttles and buses," the Disney announcement said.

Face coverings remain optional for guests in outdoor common areas.

Previous rules stated that vaccinated guests could go maskless everywhere except on park transportation. Unvaccinated guests were asked to continue wearing masks indoors, including transportation.

While guests will not be required to show proof of vaccination. Disney also said all guests must attest that they are aware that:

  1. the State of California strongly recommends that guests be fully vaccinated or obtain a negative COVID-19 test before entering the Disneyland Resort
  2. all guests (ages 2 and up) must wear face coverings when indoors, including on many attractions and in enclosed transportation vehicles."

The revised rules began after California public health officials on Wednesday aligned with new guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and recommended that everyone wear masks in indoor public settings, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

While revised mask rules apply primarily to indoor spaces and as comfortable outside, visitors to the park are still asked to keep their distance from other groups, with signage reminders scattered in gathering areas.

Still, the California Department of Public Health's announcement was a recommendation, not a mandate.

Businesses were encouraged to follow that recommendation, as Disneyland Resort has opted to require. The revised Disney rules also apply to Disney World in Florida.
