ANAHEIM, CA — There is no room at Disneyland Resort for Magic Key annual pass holders through the first week of January, according to the theme park's reservation system. Also, there are no December dates left for visitors who wish to buy tickets to the park, according to the online reservations system as of Thursday morning.

In 2021, Disneyland Resort opened the Magic Key program after sunsetting their annual pass holder plans during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown. The resort was closed for 14 months, and during that time, it reimagined how fans could go to the park. The Magic Keys— offered at varying price points— enable fans to save on ticket prices over a year, continuing discounts at stores and restaurants on-site.

Disneyland officials said the new "Magic Key" program allows for more choices and flexibility, but even that is waning. The "Dream Key," the theme park's most expensive at $1,399 that allows for reservations to one or both theme parks every day of the year, has sold out, as has the "Believe Key."

As Enchant Keyholders, our family can hold four reservations at a time. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance and come from a different "availability pool" than regular park tickets. While convenience plays a factor, one aspect of the program has been challenging to adjust to for Disney fans: The art of planning.

Gone are the spontaneous days of waking up and heading out to Disneyland for an afternoon for families like mine. We've had to be a bit more proactive with the planning, and often we must give back the reservations we've planned when life gets in the way.

If you don't, you better watch out.

Disneyland Resort has a policy with guests who frequently miss their reservations time slots. Miss too many, and your ability to hold reservations will be limited.

So, for the vigilant, you may find a day or two open up between now and the end of the year as reservation holders cancel their plans!

Otherwise, we'll see you there in 2022 for the Lunar New Year festival.

Have you had issues with the new reservations program? Or do you still find it magical?
