ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Orange County residents were warned over the weekend to be wary of a "violent criminal" who recently escaped from a halfway house.

Authorities were searching for Nicholas Souzar, 18, who was released from prison five years after stabbing his mother. On Wednesday, he removed his electronic bracelet just hours after he was moved into a Santa Ana halfway house, the Orange County district attorney's office told the Los Angeles Times.

He was also convicted in December of attacking three correctional officers and was ordered to wear an electronic monitor for the rest of sentence, which was supposed to expire July 9, 2023, according to a statement from the district attorney's office.

Souzer was just 13 when he killed his mother outside their home in Gardon Grove, stabbing her twice in the stomach. Souzer was convicted in 2019 of manslaughter in juvenile court, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"This individual should be considered extremely dangerous and violent," a statement f rom the DA's office read.
