LOS ANGELES, CA —A Los Angeles pastor and an Orange County engineering student have joined forces to get the area's homeless off the hard sidewalks of Skid Row. Homes 2 Go, a temporary solution to the ongoing homeless crisis, was designed by Orange County's Jordan Szigeti-Larenne. A Home 2 Go is a rolling "house," a system to help the homeless get off the ground and one step closer to a better life.

The construction of Homes 2 Go is as rudimentary as it is brilliant: a foldable cot, a bucket for seating, storage and waste. There is a privacy tarp screen to promote dignity, and the unit folds rolls for easy relocation.

The idea behind this mobile system was to bring not just a good night's sleep off the ground for the area's people experiencing homelessness but dignity to the person who needs it. Jordan drew the initial plans for the invention during the pandemic. His father, Joseph, helped him build the concept into reality. Pastor Sherman D. Manning of Yes We Can! Worship Center has found those in need of using them, in what has become a trinity of human kindness.

On Thursday morning at the Yes We Can! Worship Center, Manning and the McCoy Memorial Baptist Church's Dr. R.A. Williams teamed up to sponsor Homes2Go the donation of six miniature homes to a selected group of homeless people at the Union Rescue Mission women's shelter on Skid Row.

Wednesday night, Manning was out on Skid Row when he came across an ex-Marine, known to him only as David.

Until Thursday, David slept on the ground, laying what blankets he has on the sidewalk. It's hard, cold and unrelenting.

"It's painful to be homeless," Manning tells Patch. David was lying on the hard sidewalk in the middle of the night with nothing but a green military-style blanket, as shown in Manning's video.

Thursday, he was the first person to receive his Homes 2 Go mobile cot.

The pastor described the scene where 50 or 60 people gathered to see the invention and dedicate the first one to David, who once served this country. What's more, Manning praised the young Orange County man who gave of his time and energy to teach others how to help others.

"Jordan got back last night, one day before we distributed them," Manning says. "He's just 17, an engineering student. He was able to teach people to do build the Homes 2 Go pretty quickly."

A total of 10 Homes 2 Go were made in the church's parking lot, ready to be put to good use, according to Pastor Manning.

"Our church houses homeless people," Manning told Patch and shared his heart on the project to spread God's love in this humanitarian effort."I still say that we can house our homeless in this city, Yes we can!" Manning says.

He also spoke on the work of Homes 2 Go and the Larenne family's heart to help.

"They came and demonstrated Homes 2 go, and he taught people how to put each unit together," Manning said. "It was amazing."

According to Manning, Larenne's temporary solution for those experiencing homelessness is the next step in our greatest humanitarian effort.

"He is the picture of integrity, authenticity and humility," Manning says of Larenne. "He's not into this for publicity or money. He knows none of that matters, as long as we get people off the ground."
