Beautification Awards 2015
Nominations for the Pacifica Mayors' Beautification Awards are open! Take part in recognizing your neighbors and local businesses.
Community members can nominate residence or business for a Garden/Landscape Award or a Structural Improvement Award or both. Nomination forms are available via the City of Pacifica website, Beautification Advisory Committee page.
The Pacifica Beautification Awards Committee (PBAC) will be looking for newer improvements, and well maintained properties that are visible from the street (curb appeal), and enhance the neighborhood. Structural improvement could be new paint/siding, structural changes, retaining walls, roofing, solar, and use of recycled material. Garden or Landscape improvement could be drought tolerant, best maintained, sustainable, edible or native plants, best pollinator friendly garden, or use of recycled material.
We have some beautiful mountains and beaches in Pacifica, but we also have some beautiful properties in Pacifica. This year with the drought in its fourth record breaking year some Pacifica homeowners and businesses have found ways to conserve water and grow low water usage plants in their landscapes,” said Dave Martinez, PBAC Committee member. “A beautiful garden in your neighborhood is always nice to look at and appreciate. It connects you to the beauty of nature around you.”

In this year of drought you can find ways to save water and still beautify landscapes by applying for the “Lawn Be Gone” program that is offered by Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA). They will rebate $1.00 per square foot of lawn, located in a front yard that is converted to a drought tolerant garden, up to 1,000 square feet. Visit www.bawsca.org for additional information, or pick up an application at the North Coast County Water District.
Deadline for entry is Wednesday, Oct. 14. Send or drop off all nominations to Pacifica City Hall at 170 Santa Maria Ave.
