Free and Reduced Lunch Students Qualify for $10/Mo. Internet

Does your student or someone you know qualify for free lunch? Well, your internet bill may be as low as $9.95 a month.

Comcast is attempting to bridge the digital divide to put Internet into the homes of all students, according to Comcast representative Lennies Gutierrez. The plan launched in July and is currently serving 50,000 households.

Comcast is also offering $149 vouchers for laptops, which will come complete with Norton Anti-virus Software and Windows 7.

The FCC required that Comcast make broadband available to 400,000 poor households for less than $10 per month, otherwise Comcast wouldn’t have been allowed to acquire NBC earlier this year.

More than 6.6 million students are eligible nationwide. Are you unsure whether your child in the qualifies? Read this for more information. 

Some restrictions apply:

• Must live in one of the 39 states that Comcast currently serves.

• Must have at least one child enrolled in a free lunch program through the National School Lunch Program.
• Must not have been subscribed to Comcast Internet service in the last 90 days.
• Can’t have overdue Comcast bills or unreturned equipment.
