Man Sentenced For Fatal Cannabis Deal In SMC: DA
A 25-year-old man received an 11-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter and robbery in the death of a 17-year-old high school student.
REDWOOD CITY β A second man involved in a 2019 drug deal that ended in the shooting death of a 17-year-old Carlmont High School student was sentenced Monday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorneyβs office.
Antonio Marcos Valencia, 25, received an 11-year prison sentence after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter and robbery in the death of Mohammad Othman, prosecutors announced Monday.
The incident occurred on Jan. 7, 2019, when Valencia, Ruben Gonzales-Magallanes and other accomplices arranged to sell cannabis to Othman and his friends on the campus of Central Elementary School in Belmont, prosecutors said.

According to court records, the defendants instead planned to rob Othman and his group.
When Othman entered the suspects' car, Valencia pistol-whipped him, prosecutors said. Othman then fled the car and was fatally shot while running away.

Prosecutors said that Gonzales-Magallanes and a juvenile suspect chased Othman and opened fire from a hiding spot in some bushes.
At the time of his death, Othman was a senior at Carlmont High School, a member of the varsity football team, and planned to attend the College of San Mateo, prosecutors said.
