Dear Friends,

The National Park Service is turning 100 next year and there are many activities already planned starting this fall. Please join me this coming Saturday, July 18, 2015, 10-11 am for a town hall style meeting in Pacifica with Christine Lehnertz, the new Superintendent of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, to brainstorm ideas for the centennial and the GGNRA.

Our national parks are invaluable treasures of our country and our history. Millions of Americans and tourists from all around the world visit Yellowstone, Denali National Park, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and the other 54 national parks in the U.S.

In the Bay Area we are fortunate to have 80,000 acres of national park land right at our door step. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area includes famous destinations such as Alcatraz, the Presidio and Muir Woods. The GGNRA comprises 19 different ecosystems and is home to almost 1,300 animal and plant species. Its unique urban setting also offers a huge variety of ways to recreate including hiking, biking, horseback riding and dog walking.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Superintendent Lehnertz to the 14th Congressional District at Nick’s Restaurant. After our meet and greet you can take advantage of the location and hike Mori Point, Sweeny Ridge or Milagra Ridge, all part of the GGNRA.

All the best,
