Teen Arrested After Firing Gun, Leading Police On Chase In SMC: Police

Police said the suspect had fired a weapon and displayed it in a threatening manner before driving away from the scene.

HALF MOON BAY, CA β€” San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies quickly arrested a 17-year-old suspect accused of discharging and brandishing a firearm in Half Moon Bay over the weekend.

Deputies said they responded to a report around 10:45 p.m. on Friday on the 100 block of Iris Lane of a suspect with a gun.

Police said the suspect had fired a weapon and displayed it in a threatening manner before driving away from the scene.

Thanks to descriptions provided by witnesses, deputies were able to locate the suspect's vehicle a short time later on Highway 92, police said. When deputies attempted to pull the car over, the driver fled at a high rate of speed, creating a dangerous situation, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies deployed tire spike strips, which brought the vehicle to a stop near Pilarcitos Avenue and Oak Avenue. Police said the 17-year-old from Half Moon Bay was then taken into custody.

Deputies said they found multiple 9mm rounds and a spent shell casing inside the car, which were collected as evidence. Police also said the suspect is believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or property damage.

The teen was booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Center on several charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, exhibiting a firearm in a threatening manner, willfully discharging a firearm, evading a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, and being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, police said.
