2 RivCo Women Arrested On Suspicion Of Extortion

A victim was threatened with deportation if he did not pay $100,000.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — Two women have been arrested on suspicion of extorting a man for more than $100,000 in Rancho Mirage, authorities said.

On March 4, deputies received information about a woman who reportedly threatened to have a victim deported if he did not pay the money she requested, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said Thursday.

During the investigation, deputies identified Ilivia Yvette Lopez, 43, of Hemet as a suspect. She was found on March 25 in the 32000 block of Bob Hope Drive, where she was taken into custody, police said.

"Due to the large amount of money involved, a formal 'White Collar' crime enhancement will be sought with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office," the department said.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Deputy Paull with the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team at 760-836–1600.

"The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities," the department encouraged, adding, "if you or someone you know is being threatened or coerced, do not hesitate to contact law enforcement. Extortion is a serious crime, and no one should be made to feel fearful or pressured into giving up their hard-earned money."
