Brie Larson to Receive Award at PSIFF

Actress Brie Larson will be honored at the 27th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 1-11, organizers announced Friday.

The actress is being honored for her portrayal of the character “Ma” in the movie “Room,” a story about a boy who experiences the outside world for the first time.

“Larson delivers a performance of great warmth, deep reserves of courage and strong empathy as a committed parent determined to make sure her son is taken care of under unimaginable circumstances,” festival Chairman Harold Matzner said.

Larson’s other credits include “The Gambler,” and “21 Jump Street.”

Cate Blanchett, Johnny Depp and Saoirse Rona also are set to receive honors during the gala.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival, billed as one of the largest film festivals in North America, drew about 135,000 attendees in 2015.
