Marcus Green, 51, of Thermal, was arrested just before 3:30 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol and was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to jail records.
Green was behind the wheel of a 2015 Porsche sport coupe that struck a metal guardrail and crashed down an embankment about 200 feet off state Route 74, according to the CHP.
In the front passenger seat were 22-year-old Kristen Lauer and 5-month old Armani Green, both of Rancho Mirage. The baby, who was on her mother's lap, was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
Both Green and Lauer were injured and were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.
The crash investigation is ongoing, and CHP officials said no further information would be released at this time.
