City of Palm Desert Presents First Weekend
Participants will be able to enjoy an array of activities such as food, art , music, and fashion starting Nov.3.

From The City of Palm Desert: Palm Desert First Weekend is back, kicking off the season with a bang in November with the return of the ever-popular STREET event as well as many of your other First Weekend favorites. What better way to celebrate the return of First Weekend than with a party? On November 3, from 5 to 11 p.m., Westfield Palm Desert presents STREET. Come celebrate street art, music, food, and fashion at this free festival held under the stars on The Deck, the third level of Westfield’s parking structure near Macy’s. Keep the party going all night with live music including ska, reggae, and hip-hop bands as well as DJs. Experience larger-than-life art, including live muraling, spray painting and interactive sculpture. And make sure to bring your appetite, to sample a variety of food and drink vendors, including everything from a Stuft Pizza pop-up restaurant to food trucks, craft beer, cocktails, and more. If you enjoy shopping, we’ve got you covered with more than a dozen retail vendors offering your favorite brands and local designers. STREET is open to all ages, and features a family area complete with crafts, games and more. With art, music, food, and fashion, STREET 2017 is exactly the party you’ve been waiting for to kick of the season in high style!
Also on November 3 is Galen First Friday at the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert. Experience the traditions of El Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, from 4 to 9 p.m.This free celebration features an interactive Day of the Dead art project in the outdoor Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden; live music; docent tours of the current exhibition Bob Van Breda: Lost and Found at 4 p.m.; a performance by the College of the Desert Ballet Folklorico Club "Sabor a mi Tierra" at 5 p.m.; an ArtTalk lecture with Run with Los Muertos Artist of the Year PANCA at 6 p.m.; and a music performance by David Macias at 7 p.m. Wine and beer from Cuistot will be available for purchase at 5:30 p.m.

- El Paseo Cruise Night, Friday, November 3, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Get a close-up look at lovingly cared for cars on the upper level of The Gardens on El Paseo parking structure, then watch them cruise the street between Highway 74 and Portola. Talk with the owners as the cool, shiny cars begin arriving around3:15 p.m. before they begin cruising El Paseo between 4 and 6 p.m.

- El Paseo Art Walk, Friday, November 3, 4 to 8 p.m.
The renowned El Paseo Art Walk is a self-guided stroll among the numerous art galleries on the famed avenue. Art galleries will feature exhibition openings, artist receptions and more.
- Daryl Thetford Art Exhibit - Graphic, Modern, Pop,Friday, November 3, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Desert Art Collection
Daryl’s work has been described as graphic, modern, pop, and contemporary, although what to actually call the process has been a larger source of debate; it has been called photo collage, digital art, and digital mixed media.
- Civic Center Public Art Tour – Saturday, November 4, 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Take a free, guided walking tour of the public art collection at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park as part of Palm Desert's inspiring and fun filled weekend of art and culture. Tour begins in front of the Messenger of the Puul statue, located at the south entrance to the park off of Fred Waring.
- Desert Mountains Art Faire – Saturday, November 4, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

- Living in Earthquake Country – Saturday, November 4, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Learn about the creation of San Andreas fault and topography of the west with animations explaining earthquake shaking to better understand why/how to be prepared for the next "big one."
- College of the Desert Street Fair, Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For over 30 years, this premiere open-air shopping experience has been a popular destination for visitors and residents alike! Offering more than 300 booths featuring artists, farmer’s market, boutiques, unique items, live entertainment, gourmet food and more. Located at College of the Desert, corner of Monterey and Fred Waring.
- Story Hour at the Monument, Sunday, November 5, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Kids’ Corner offers story time about nature and desert creatures in the National Monument and includes outdoor or craft activities. Story Hour at the Monument takes place at the National Monument Visitors Center. Ages 4 to 8 are welcome with a parent. Space is limited.
- Maps and Compass & Basics for Youth, Sunday, November 5, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

How do you use a map with a compass? Let's have some fun learning by doing at the National Monument Visitor Center. Ages 9 and above, space is limited.
Key partners for First Weekend include El Paseo Shopping District, and Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert/The Galen and Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden.
