Angel View teams with Desert Hot Springs' school for unique art project following unanimous City Council approval
As part of a community-based collaboration that teams Angel View with students from Painted Hills Middle School, the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery, and Old Town Artisan Studio, a recyclable handmade art project will become a permanent display as part of Desert Hot Springs' Art in Public Places initiative.
At the Oct. 3 meeting of the DHS City Council, the effort was given unanimous approval and the project is now underway.
From cracked coffee cups and pieces of porcelain plates, the students are creating entryway multi-color mosaic-inspired artwork to be duplicated and embedded into 12 concrete columns outside the new Angel View Clearance Center and Warehouse on Dillon Road.

By using unsold donated items, some one-of-a-kind pieces, art students learn about conservation, reuse and other environmental issues through hands-on exploration. Thanks to the school, Angel View, S.C.R.A.P. Gallery (based in Cathedral City) and Old Town Artisan (out of La Quinta), art and environmental education are at the forefront of a unique project that will be part of the city for years to come.
The project offers opportunity to express themes which are the hallmarks of Desert Hot Springs' community pride: Collaboration, Art, Recycling & Sustainability and Caring for People with Disabilities.

Through the semester, student's designs will be collected, chosen, then crafted to be placed along the 12 columns. Winners will receive prizes for their selected design with the Angel View heart logo prominently featured.
Angel View clients participating in the therapeutic Day Program will assist in the creation by painting ceramic tiles with Angel View's signature heart.
Angel View, the six-decades long nonprofit serving children and adults with disabilities, has been operating in the city of Desert Hot Springs since 1954 and is the city's largest private employer with 12 residential 24-hour care homes, a Day Program in the former hospital on Miracle Hill Road along with two resale store locations.
Watch for more on this unique collaboration in the coming weeks.
