Wind Advisory For Palm Desert: How Blustery Will It Get?
Windy weather is coming to the desert Wednesday, the National Weather Service reported.

PALM DESERT, CA — Santa Ana winds will lash the Inland Empire beginning Tuesday evening and continuing into Thursday, prompting the National Weather Service to post a wind advisory in the Coachella Valley and high wind warning for the western portion of the region.
The desert's wind advisory was in effect from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Wednesday. The high wind warning across the western portion of the county was in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 12 p.m. Thursday, according to the NWS.
"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches," the weather service stated. "If possible, remain in the lower levels of the home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive."

According to meteorologists, winds will average 25 to 35 mph in canyons and passes, with peak gusts to 70 mph. Local gusts of up to 40 miles per hour could occur, especially in wind-prone areas.

A ridge of high pressure settling over the northern tier of the Great Basin in Nevada and Utah will be the engine behind the Santa Anas. The high will roll eastward, giving way to lower pressure Thursday, according to forecasters.
