Living Desert Zoo Launches Fund To Offset Lost Ticket Sales

"Every day The Living Desert is closed, we lose $30,000 a day," said the nonprofit's president. Donations will be used for animal care.

PALM DESERT, CA — With its gates temporarily closed due to the coronavirus, The Living Desert Zoo & Gardens in Palm Desert is hoping to make up lost revenue with an animal-care fund.

"Every day The Living Desert is closed, we lose $30,000 a day," Living Desert President/CEO Allen Monroe said in an email sent today to supporters. "As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on ticket sales, memberships, and events. And, even though we had contingency plans for every normal disaster, our current situation is worse than 9/11 and the Great Recession combined, leaving us with a difficult road ahead."

To offset the losses, The Living Desert has launched the "Mission: Animal Care" drive to help fund the care and veterinary costs for the more than 450 animals at the site. For those interested in donating, follow this link.
