Palm Desert Under Frost Advisory From National Weather Service

"Temperatures as low as 30 degrees will result in frost formation," according to the NWS's desert forecast.

PALM DESERT, CA — While the latest winter storm has passed, sub-freezing temperatures are forecast across western Riverside County Thursday night and into Friday morning, prompting a freeze warning from the National Weather Service.

The agency has also issued a frost advisory for the Coachella Valley, including Palm Desert.

"Temperatures as low as 30 degrees will result in frost formation," according to the NWS's desert forecast. "Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold."

The desert's frost advisory is in effect between midnight and 8 a.m. Friday, according to the NWS.

The chilly weather is expected to begin warming, reaching daytime highs in the low 80s by Monday in Palm Desert. The NWS shows no rain for the rest of the month.

Temperatures as low as 27 degrees are predicted in western Riverside County where a freeze warning is in effect between midnight and 8 a.m. Friday, according to the NWS.

A freeze warning is issued by the NWS when significant, widespread freezing temperatures are expected.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing," the NWS advised.

Residents across Riverside County are also advised to protect their pets against the chilly conditions.
