Sammy's Meatball Festival For Boys & Girls Club Goes Virtual

The annual event still will raise funds for the Cathedral City organization - just in different format, with cooking videos & testimonials.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — Sammy’s International Meatball Festival, an annual meatball-competition fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City, is hosting its eighth year's event in a virtual format, with a live, one-hour special including testimonials and cooking demos.

The benefit is Sunday, Oct. 4 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with no fee to join in online, according to organizers.

"We cannot host the traditional, head-to-head meatball judging, so we’ve organized a peer-to-peer fundraising event where individual participants campaign for ‘votes’ as donations to BGCCCity from their family, friends, and associates (1 vote for each $1 raised)," the BGCCCity sponsors said.

The festival began as Sammy Pace, a Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City board member, combined his Italian-heritage quest for the best meatballs in the Coachella Valley with the nonprofit organization.

This year's virtual fundraiser will feature "a one-hour event filled with live action, inspiring testimonials, videos about our Virtual Club Experience and videos of participants preparing their mouth-watering entries."

"It promises to be both a fun and inspiring event," organizers said.

The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, which opened in 1980, is one of three Boys & Girls Club organizations in the Coachella Valley, with each club responsible for its own fundraising. Proceeds from the benefit will benefit the Cathedral City operation.

At present, BGCCCity is not open to in-house services due to the coronavirus pandemic, but is offering its "Virtual Club Experience" for members.

Proceeds from the benefit will benefit the Cathedral City operation and its mission to inspire and enable young people, particularly those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
