Gerardo Castellanos and Amanda "Missy" Lukas get grants from local realtors.
Two Palm Desert High Students were among 19 high school seniors honored with academic scholarships by the California Desert Association of REALTORS.
Gerardo Castellanos and Amanda “Missy” Lukas were each awarded $1,000 toward their college education.
"For more than three decades, our association has had the privilege to reward our bright, inspiring young people who want to further their education,” said Marnie Balog, president of the California Desert Association of REALTORS.

The scholarships were made available, “thanks to the hard work of our Golf Tournament Committee, our Young Professionals Network group and our wonderful Community Services Committee, which raises monies for scholarships,” she said.
“As the Coachella Valley grows and the number of students increases, it becomes more of a challenge to choose among the wonderful young people we have here,” Balog said. The selection process is tough, she said, noting that students are selected on the basis of academic achievement and desire to continue their college education.
