Wind, Dust Advisory Issued For Coachella Valley, Gusts To 55 MPH
A cold storm system developing over the Great Basin is responsible for the cooler, blustery weather, the NWS said.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A wind advisory will take effect Monday across Riverside County bringing a chill to the region, including in Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. Monday through 3 a.m. Tuesday with expected wind gusts up to 55 mph in the Coachella Valley but much stronger in higher elevations.
Gusts will hit 50-70 mph in the mountains and adjacent desert slopes. Most desert areas will get gusts 35-55 mph, while coast and valleys will reach 25-35 mph, the NWS reported.

The strongest winds will be felt along the foothills Monday evening, according to the NWS.
"Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects," the agency warned.

The winds may cause blowing sand and dust in the Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass Area, prompting the South Coast Air Quality Management District to issue a windblown dust advisory.
In the San Gorgonio Pass Area there is even a chance for a few light showers Monday night and into Tuesday, mainly over the mountains, according to the NWS.

"The winds will weaken overnight, but the Autumn chill will last into Tuesday followed by a warming trend for the remainder of the week," the NWS reported.
Daytime high temperatures will reach the mid-60s Monday and Tuesday across much of western Riverside County. The Coachella Valley will see highs in the low 80s Monday and then a dip to the mid-70s Tuesday, according to the NWS.
