(Palo Alto, CA; [9/16/2011])  National Disaster Preparedness Day, a Palo Alto based non-profit organization (NDPD), is hosting a school-wide event on September 16th, 2011, to raise awareness and preparedness in case of natural disasters.  The day, which is the first of a proposed annual event, will be located at the amphitheatre of Henry M. Gunn Senior High School, located at 780 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto CA 94306.

The event is open to the general public, including all students attending any Palo Alto Unified School District school and will include information and activities to help these youths and their families to better prepare for disasters, in terms of stocking adequate supplies for any type of disaster, such as earthquakes, floods, natural gas explosions, and fires.  Demonstrations will be provided by the Palo Alto Fire and Police departments as well as by the Red Cross on what to do in the event of such emergencies and how to properly and effectively prepare for all types of disaster.  Vendors, such as ACE Hardware will be present to provide discount coupons for supplies necessary for an adequate disaster preparedness kit, such as tents, blankets, water, and food.

The National Disaster Preparedness Day event includes food and drink prepared by various local vendors, sold in food trucks on the campus of Gunn High School. Local youth and student bands will provide entertainment throughout the day. All residents and students of Palo Alto are encouraged to come by and participate in National Disaster Preparedness Day and learn how to prepare and respond in event of an emergency or disaster.  Emergency supply kit lists will be available and an example of a complete and proper preparedness kit will be on display for spectators to take note of.
