Through their nonprofit club Pen & Pipette, the teens handled writing, publishing, marketing, and school outreach, earning national reviews while inspiring younger readers and training underclassmen to continue the project.

Council may decide tonight to release appraisal of Cubberley as Measure J vote approaches (padailypost.com) — Palo Alto City Council may decide tonight whether to release the long-sought appraisal for Cubberley Community Center land, just as residents prepare to vote on Measure J's half-cent sales tax. Supporters say the tax is key to renovating Cubberley, while opponents question the undisclosed appraisal, the tax's lack of a sunset, and pressure from other recent regional tax hikes.

3. Police: Hand grenade found at Cooley Landing in East Palo Alto (paloaltoonline.com) — East Palo Alto police have closed part of Cooley Landing after a suspected hand grenade was found and moved from the water to the shore Sunday afternoon. The bomb squad is handling disposal, and residents are urged to avoid the area and never touch suspicious objects, instead leaving immediately and calling emergency services.

4. Around Town: Evolution of Cal Ave., Caltrain changes (paloaltoonline.com) — California Avenue's car-free stretch is getting repaved and will soon feature new, standardized parklet designs that aim to make Palo Alto's "second downtown" more inviting for outdoor dining. Meanwhile, Caltrain has suspended service to the Stanford station for this football season, directing game-day riders to the fully equipped Palo Alto station a short walk away while it reevaluates future operations.
