City Recruiting Emergency Preparedness Committee Volunteers

The committee makes recommendations to the City Council to help ensure that Rancho Palos Verdes is ready to respond to emergencies.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is recruiting to fill two seats on the Emergency Preparedness Committee, the City announced Tuesday. These are volunteer, non-paying positions with terms of office ending in 2022, pending City Council approval.

The Emergency Preparedness Committee makes recommendations to the City Council to help ensure that Rancho Palos Verdes is ready to respond to emergencies and disasters, the City press release said. Committee members advise the Council on ways to develop and improve programs to communicate with and educate residents about the importance of emergency preparedness.

"Committee members are called upon to participate in community outreach events to encourage residents to become prepared and to participate in local volunteer disaster response organizations," the City said. "Committee members are also encouraged to become trained and registered as Disaster Service Workers, and/or receive other disaster-related training and certifications."

The Emergency Preparedness Committee meets on a monthly basis, typically the third Thursday of the month, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at City Hall; staff is authorized to cancel unnecessary monthly meetings after conferring with the Chair.

Those interested in applying must submit an application to the City Clerk’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Applicants must be residents of Rancho Palos Verdes. An application can be requested from the City Clerk’s Office, located at City Hall, 30940 Hawthorne Boulevard, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, or downloaded from the City’s website. Interviews of new applicants by the City Council are anticipated to take place on May 21 before the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting, the City said.
