National Charity League Enjoys Holiday Tea Time
The National Charity League, Inc., Peninsula Chapter held its largest event of the year, the Annual Holiday Tea, in Palos Verdes Estates.
From the National Charity League, Inc., Peninsula Chapter: The National Charity League, Inc., Peninsula Chapter recently held its annual Holiday Tea on Sunday, December 11. Beth Graziadio and her daughter Marianna, class of 2019, welcomed over 500 guests throughout the afternoon at their home in Palos Verdes Estates. This year’s guests included seven NCL Peninsula Chapter past-presidents Lori Delgado, Jan VanRiper, Karen Cameron, Ellen Perkins, Karen Govenar, Julie Long and Mary Beth Kane.

NCL Peninsula Chapter President Janet Westergard stated, “Our 167 Ticktockers volunteered over 9200 hours this past summer working throughout the community for the greater good. Many worked through PVPUSD to aid in K-5 and Middle School Summer class rooms. A strong contingent worked at the PV Land Conservancy, Little Sisters of the Poor, Children's Institute International (CII), Heal the Bay, and the PV Art Center - although this is just small example of the many organizations benefiting from our Ticktocker's time.
And while philanthropy is the primary focus of our organization, the annual tea provides a forum for practicing social graces. Our girls learn the finer points of entertaining in a fun and safe environment. It's also excellent opportunity for our entire chapter to come together - Patroness Moms and Ticktocker Daughters - with special guests, past presidents and close friends. It's a beautiful tradition that we all feel honored to be a part of.”

The annual Holiday Tea is a time honored tradition in National Charity League, Inc. which teaches the girls, otherwise known as “Ticktockers,” the importance of taking time out of their fast paced lives to enjoy a leisurely afternoon with friends. The event also educates Ticktockers on the importance of hostess skills, as well as how to be a proper and appreciative guest. The tea is divided into groups for a total of 3 separate teas – 7th class hosts 8th grade, 9th grade hosts 10th grade and 11th grade hosts 12th. Each girl of the hosted class invited two guests to the tea, including guests such as grandmothers, aunts, cousins, teachers and coaches.
More specifically, this year’s event provided the girls an opportunity to learn social skills in a formal setting by working with their mothers to prepare tea sandwiches and desserts, as well as greet and serve guests. Caroline Moore, the chapter’s Social Graces Tea Chair, oversaw the event.
