The Point Vicente Chapter DAR to Join National Day of Service

The Point Vicente Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will take part in the National DAR Day of Service on October 11, 2015, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR, which is comprised of the descendants of the Patriots who won American independence, was founded on October 11, 1890, as a service organization to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
Members of the local Point Vicente Chapter will be participating on Saturday, October 10, 2015 by increasing illiteracy awareness in our community. They will post flyers in local area business windows to advertise that the South Bay Literacy Council teaches adults to read, write and speak English for FREE.
“Our chapter, which was organized in 1985, carries out the important mission of the National Society here on the local level,” said Chapter Regent Karin Amour. “We’re excited to demonstrate the vibrancy and contributions of today’s DAR by joining Daughters from across the country in serving our local communities as part of this national day of service.”

“Here in the South Bay area, the Point Vicente Chapter, for example, serves by hosting an annual American History Essay and Junior American Citizens Awards Contest for local school children K-12, hosting an annual JROTC and Outstanding Sea Cadet Merit Awards Ceremony for local youth, serving veterans as hostesses at Military Appreciation events, sponsoring a booth at the Port of Los Angeles Veteran’s Appreciation Festival on Veteran’s Day, preserving local historic sites and much, much more. We are proud to carry out DAR’s mission to celebrate our American way of life,” said Amour.
