The National Charity League Peninsula Chapter Ticktockers sent out flowers and letters to support local hospital staff and patients.

SAN PEDRO, CA — Philanthropy efforts haven't stopped for the National Charity League Peninsula Chapter Ticktockers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The group has taken a creative approach to philanthropic efforts this year, sending out flower bouquets and letters to support local hospital staff and patients.

"This year with a little creativity and innovation, we have been finding new ways to support our community and embrace our philanthropies," Michele Dee from the group told Patch.

"This month, our Ticktockers wrote 450 letters and decorated 960 door signs for Little Sisters of the Poor," Dee said. "They also made 307 flower bouquets to donate to Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Little Company of Mary Transitional Care, Little Sisters of the Poor, and Community’s Child."

That's not it—there's more. And the chapter plans to keep up their work.

"It was incredibly touching to see these gifts of joy received by staff, and made for an impressive show of our Peninsula Chapter’s work in our community," Dee told Patch. "We have also collected 1,465 items including art, toiletry and nutrition kits, face masks, bean bags and yarn balls to donate to our philanthropies, and we have delivered 70 meals to the families at Harbor Interfaith."

The group is hoping to return to in-person philanthropy efforts in the future, including their thrift shop in San Pedro and volunteering with Little Sisters of the Poor.

For now, they plan to keep a distance. But that doesn't mean they are done working on supporting the community.

"We look forward to the day we can be back with our Patronesses and Ticktockers at the Ticktocker Thrift Shop in San Pedro and volunteering in person at Community's Child and Little Sisters of the Poor, but until then, we are hoping to spread a bit of happiness and caring to our communities through these projects," Dee said.
