South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide January 23, 2020

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

I’m a planner, not a procrastinator, so when I received notice that my driver’s license will expire this year, I immediately went online to make an appointment at the DMV. I tried every DMV office north to the valley and south to Orange County and there wasn’t one appointment available. Not one! They’re always telling us to make appointments instead of walking in, so this is not only frustrating, it’s outrageous. (Pardon the rant, I had to vent.) On a much brighter note, I attended the inaugural MLK Jr. Day Celebration at the Redondo Beach Civic Center this past Monday night. What a lovely remembrance! Kudos to the RBPD Community Engagement Board, specifically, Tonya McKenzie, Dr. Marcus Goodloe and Captain Jon Naylor for organizing such a wonderful event. They also unveiled a new MLK Jr. memorial bench in front of the police station, so when you’re in the area, stop for a moment, take a breath and have a seat. I may have to do just that after dropping in at the DMV without an appointment.
DineLA Restaurant Week continues through January 31. DineLA Restaurant Week is a bi-annual dining event established to introduce diners to the extensive assortment of restaurants in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County. Local foodies and visitors to the area will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of specially priced prix fixe menus from some of LA’s best restaurants during this this period. Restaurants from El Segundo to Palos Verdes will be participating in this culinary event. Some of the restaurants will feature lunch, some will offer dinner and some will present both so be sure to check the website at https://www.discoverlosangeles.com/dinela. Diners may make a reservation online at Open Table or contact the restaurant directly. Due to the popularity of this event, advance reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-ins are welcome but there is no guarantee they can be accommodated. This is a great opportunity to sample something different and it’s sure to whet your appetite without emptying your wallet!

The Palos Verdes Peninsula C.E.R.T. Team will host a free discussion, Stay or Go? today, Thursday, January 23 at 7 p.m. at Hesse Park. In a wildfire or earthquake does one evacuate or shelter in place? Learn simple steps you can take today to protect yourself, your family, and your home.
