South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide October 5, 2017

The entire country was shattered by the unspeakably brutal event in Las Vegas earlier this week, and the South Bay continues to stagger from the devastating impact to our close-knit community. We lost Rachel Parker of Long Beach, a Records Technician with the Manhattan Beach Police Department; Sandy Casey of Redondo Beach, a special-education teacher at Manhattan Beach Middle School; Christiana Duarte of Torrance, a fan-service associate for the L.A. Kings; and Lisa Patterson of Lomita, owner of Patterson Hardwood Floors in Lomita. They were immersed in our community and touched the lives of so many people on a daily basis. There has been an outpouring of love and support locally, including a candlelight vigil last night at the Manhattan Beach Pier and a candlelight vigil at Lomita City Hall tonight at 6:30 p.m. The victims and their families are in our hearts and prayers.

I’ve just became aware of yet more activity in the burgeoning South Bay craft beer scene. There are so many popping up these days it’s hard to keep track! Burnin’ Daylight Brewing Company will be located at 24516 Narbonne Avenue in Lomita. They’ve already received their Conditional Use Permit and there is a temporary banner sign on the building during construction. They expect to open in 2018. I think this will be a great addition to Narbonne Avenue! State Brewing Company in Gardena has been operational for a few years but they recently applied for a CUP for a tasting room. El Segundo Museum of Art is now accepting submissions for the Video Art + Film Festival: La Esperanza! in conjunction with the new Experience #31 HOPE. What does “hope” mean to you?
