Thirty Years of Community Service Celebrated!

The Point Vicente Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution celebrates its 30th Anniversary on December 5, 2015.

Point Vicente Chapter, with over 125 members is located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and is one of the 114 chapters in California that have contributed thousands of hours of community service locally in the past 30 years. Below are just a few examples:

  • Local students are recognized annually with awards and DAR scholarships for academic excellence, good citizenship and knowledge of American history. The DAR is committed to promoting history education for children.
  • Outstanding members of Junior Reserve Officer Corps (JROTC) from local high schools and Outstanding Cadets from the Sea Cadets and Civil Air Patrols are awarded medals for outstanding service. The DAR is committed to promoting patriotism.
  • Local American veterans and VA institutions are provided with many hours of volunteer services by the chapter. A public Veteran’s Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial at Green Hills Memorial Park as well as hosting a booth at the Port of Los Angeles Veteran’s Appreciation Festival are just two examples of the many ways the DAR is committed to serving our military and veterans.

The celebration will take place at the Rolling Hills Country Club. California State Regent, Carol Oakley Jackson will be in attendance at the luncheon. The Chapter has received Proclamations from the City of Torrance and the County of Los Angeles as well as Letters of Appreciation from the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates. The members and guests will commemorate 30 years of service in the local community.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 180,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
