What Californians Hate The Most According To A Relationship Dealbreaker Map
The HaterDater app connects couples based on their common hates, which a scientific study suggests promotes bonding.

PALOS VERDES, CA — More than anything, Californians hate fidget spinners, according to an analysis from the creators of a catchy dating app called HaterDater that helps singles navigate irritants, annoyances and other deal-breaking behaviors that stand between them and happily ever after. Fidget spinners, summer's newest fad toy that, for many children, went from "what's that?" to "I have to have it" in less than a week, apparently annoy California daters the most.
For other West Coast states, niche objects of animosity kill the mood. In Oregon, spin class is the most hated among daters — maybe they prefer to ride real bikes to real destinations? Washington daters unite in their hatred for Keurig K-Cups, possibly because Starbucks originated in their state. They have the king of coffee to-go, so the coffee pods are a big no. Nevada hates the feminist movement, Utah hates porn (possibly due to their high population of Mormons), and Arizona daters just can't stand sand.
Hater connects singles based on behaviors they, well, hate. The premise behind the app is that it’s important for people in relationships to not only love but also loathe the same things — and it’s supported, somewhat, by research.

Researchers at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas-Austin found in a 2006 study that “sharing a negative — as compared to a positive — attitude about a third party is particularly effective in promoting closeness between people.”
To get the data for the map, Hater users logged their loves, hates, likes and dislikes on a menu of 3,000 topics, which were then sorted by state to look for geographic patterns, Huffington Post reported. The company has been collecting data from its half million users since its February launch.

Over on the East Coast, those crabby New Yorkers hate Time Square (we get it, it's a tourist destination), while South Carolina hates...Edward Snowden? New Hampshire must be full of atheists, because HaterDater's data said the thing they hate the most is God. For Rhode Island daters, they can't stand Middle America.
Speaking of Middle America, South Dakota hates "The New York Times," and Oklahoma daters don't like keeping up on current gossip. If you're on a date with someone from Missouri, don't mention your favorite movie is "Signs." While they may be keen to M. Night Shyamalan, they really don't want to hear you talk about believing in aliens.
