Some residents are already raising concerns about noise, environmental impacts, and transparency, and they're urging neighbors to attend an upcoming fairgrounds board meeting in Perris to weigh in.
   

2. Police Dog Being Used To Sniff Out Weapons Within This Riverside County School District (patch.com) — Students in Val Verde Unified, including those in Perris, will start seeing K-9 Ella, a new weapons-detection dog, visiting campuses for routine safety checks. Officials say Ella will focus on deterring weapons while also building positive relationships with students, supplementing existing security measures rather than signaling an active threat.
   

3. Val Verde school board aims to improve relations with superintendent (pressenterprise.com) — Val Verde Unified's board, which serves parts of Perris, has decided to keep Superintendent Gordon Amerson but bring in a consultant to repair strained relations and clarify expectations. After public concerns about transparency, lawsuits, and possible retaliation, board members are signaling closer scrutiny of communication, finances, and accountability across the district's schools.
   

4. Mead Valley Vegetation Fire 90% Contained; Two People Injured (mynewsla.com) — A 30-acre brush fire in nearby Mead Valley, just southwest of Perris, is now 90% contained after injuring two people, one critically. Firefighters say the blaze began with a vehicle fire Friday night and quickly spread to surrounding vegetation before crews stopped its progress. The cause remains under investigation, and Cal Fire will keep the area under patrol for several days.
   

5. Mead Valley Man Accused of Killing Dad to Stand Trial for Murder (mynewsla.com) — A Mead Valley man accused of killing his 70-year-old father and robbing three others will stand trial for first-degree murder and robbery after a judge found enough evidence to proceed. Deputies say the father was fatally assaulted at his Clark Street home last November, and the suspect was arrested later that day on North Perris Boulevard in Perris. He remains jailed on $1 million bail as the case moves toward arraignment.
