Body Found In Petaluma River ID'd As Local Homeless Man

Cause of death is still pending.

The Sonoma County coroner’s office has identified a man who was found dead in the Petaluma River late Saturday night as 57-year-old Michael Coleman, a Petaluma-area transient.

Petaluma police officers and firefighters responded to the river north of Payran Street around 11:40 p.m. Saturday, police Sgt. Ed Crosby said.

Coleman’s body was difficult to access and was removed from the river Sunday morning.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday and the cause of death is pending toxicology tests.
