Detectives investigating the allegations reviewed documents, served search warrants, and interviewed representatives from several financial institutions and witnesses. As investigators compared internal league records with official bank data, they found evidence suggesting the losses were greater than first reported, police said.
Ultimately, investigators identified more than $60,000 in unauthorized transfers, according to the statement. Detectives also found what they described as systematic alterations to financial records provided to league officials, including deleted and renamed transactions and fabricated bank statements, according to Petaluma police.
Additional evidence indicated league funds may have been used for personal expenses, police said.
Detectives submitted the case to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office, which announced charges today.
Police said cooperation from league board members and community members was instrumental in the investigation.
