Crews Battle Mountain Fire In Penngrove

The wildfire broke out in the 2400 block of Mountain Ranch Road near Old Adobe Road, northeast of Petaluma.

PENNGROVE, CA — Firefighters stopped the forward spread of a wildfire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in the Sonoma County community of Penngrove. The Mountain Fire was 27 acres as of 4:30 p.m., Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said in an update.

The blaze in the 2400 block of Mountain Ranch Road, near Old Adobe Road, was 10 acres at 3:30 p.m. but crews overcame winds that caused the fire to burn at a moderate rate of spread, Cal Fire officials said.

The fire sparked northeast of Petaluma and southeast of Rohnert Park and Cotati, resulting in large, highly visible plumes of smoke.

"The fire is producing lots of smoke but thus far is not a threat to structures or Petaluma city limits," the Petaluma Police Department said at 3:30 p.m.

As of 3:15 p.m., there were no evacuation orders in place, Cal Fire said.

A sig-alert was issued at 3:37 p.m. for a road closure at Hardin Lane and Old Adobe Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Hardin was closed at Adobe, and CHP advised motorists to take an alternate route, the CHP said.
